Lent on the Road

Life on the road is not glamorous - but it is rich and full.

Sometimes it is a truck stop like this one where I got too tired to drive on my way to Phoenix from Lake Havasu City, AZ.

Sometimes it is the Atlantic or Pacific ocean. A few days ago I backed the RV into a great place overlooking the desert land of Cottonwood, Arizona (pictured below) where they are building a new parish. Rumor has it they may add an RV pad where we can park next time.

Through your encouragement, Mary and I both sense God calling our family to continue traveling city to city; state to state, inviting Catholics families to grow strong in holiness. To do that we all must decide to both fight and give up. Give up trying to fit into the world. We did. So can you. It is very refreshing to stop trying to fit in and just get on with living the Gospel. No, it does not mean you will move into an RV like us - this is just our way of following the Holy Spirit. The way your family is called will be unique to you - and it will invigorate you. Recalling a phrase our Late Great pope John Paul II used to say: "Do Not Be Afraid!"

Fight for a quiet space where you can hear God calling you to conversion of heart. Hope your lenten season is bearing fruit in your family.

NOTE: Hope for those who suffer is more than an idea. It is being presented this month at a parish in California. We are anxious to share this concept with you. Pray for wisdom for us as we clarify the effort and as soon as we are able - it will be posted here. Thank you for your prayers!

These Windows of Time

The Lenten Season...
The time we have our parents and siblings...
The time we have our children at home...
The time we have each other...
The time we have on earth...

I don't want to waste a moment.

If I decide to let my heart be engaged in the life-long process of conversion, I will have very few regrets.
My number one regret will be that I did not begin this process sooner. Lent is a perfect opportunity to review whether or not we are living the truth - or living like hypocrites... I don't want to waste a moment... neither do you - or you would not still be reading this little blurb I am posting here.

Just a suggestion: This Lent, maybe we can be more present to one another in our families. That never hurt - unless we're the only ones making the effort - then it hurts like heck - and we'd have something else to offer up. Right?

Our Father in Heaven, please send us Your Holy Spirit... Let our Lenten season be a rich one and may the conversion of our hearts be authentic and ongoing until we draw our last breath when You will open for us a Window to Eternity... Amen.
